Counseling Approach: I have worked as a professional counselor for almost 40 years. During that time I worked as a Family and Marriage counselor for close to 20 years before coming to Concordia to start up our Counseling Center. I have a cognitive behavioral approach to helping others. As a called Lay Minister I enjoy integrating faith and God’s Word into the counseling process when a student desires that perspective. I believe that helping students experience God’s mercy and grace is an integral part of guiding them through the challenges and adversities that they face. I believe that I provide a safe and confidential setting in which students can anticipate making progress with their presenting concerns.

I believe in a faith-based approach to healing and growth and integrate cognitive behavioral techniques to work toward healthy thought patterns. My goal is to help students recognize their strengths, process complex emotions, identify and build their support system and utilize community resources to best build the life they envision for themselves.

Counseling Approach: After a career in state government, public mental health agencies, and private practice, I was drawn to the Counseling Center because of its openness to incorporating faith into therapy and my interest in early adult development. I view this period as offering freedom and unique opportunities to shape one’s future path. I believe that understanding how one experiences themselves, other people, and the world can lay the foundation for a more meaningful life. Learning practical tools to accomplish this is part of what I offer in my counseling work. My wife is on faculty here at Concordia, and two of our children attend the University. In my spare time, I enjoy golf, reading about spirituality, and home projects.
Specialty Areas: Anxiety, depression, young adult development, psycho-spiritual development, trauma/abuse, suicidal ideation, coping, life skills, emerging adulthood, family problems, separation anxiety/homesickness

Counseling Approach: Having completed my master’s degree in Professional Counseling in June 2024, I am now working towards LPC licensure in the CUW Counseling Center. In addition, you can find me across campus in the Office of Admissions, where I work full-time as a graduate admission counselor. Before coming to Concordia, I was a stay-at-home mom to my five kids (ages 13-21) and a freelance writer/editor, but I had always dreamed of becoming a mental health counselor. Now that I am here, I consider it a privilege to come alongside students as they process who they are, where they came from, and who they would like to become during this pivotal life stage. My approach is eclectic, but I have a particular interest in Internal Family Systems and Attachment Theory. I look forward to helping those with issues related to: dating and other relationships, family dynamics, conflict management, time management, faith, grief, goal setting, career exploration, holistic health (mind/body/spirit), and development of self-concept.

Counseling Approach: I believe that honesty, honor, and respect are all central to the counseling process. I believe that by fostering a safe environment, growth, change, and healing can take place. My hope is that each person will leave my office feeling valued and empowered to work towards their goals. My approach is client-centered, strengths-based, faith-based, and incorporates tools from cognitive behavioral therapy. However, my utmost priority is understanding the person in front of me and adjusting my interventions to suit their unique needs. Due to having an extensive sports background, I enjoy counseling athletes. I earned second-team all-state in high school volleyball and competed at the NCAA Division III level in volleyball. I recognize that sports can take a toll on an athlete’s mental health. Therefore, I am devoted to creating a safe space for athletes to understand that their mental health is just as important as their physical health.

About me: I am the Student Wellness Intake and Triage Coordinator at Concordia University Wisconsin (CUW), where I am dedicated to connecting students with a variety of mental health resources. My role involves assessing students' needs and guiding them to on-campus services such as counseling, life coaching, peer support, campus ministry, and the health center, as well as assisting them in finding off-campus care when necessary.
As a certified QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) Suicide Prevention Instructor, I provide vital training on recognizing and addressing suicidal thoughts. My certifications in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Inspiring Comfort, and Project Connect equip me to offer effective support and coordinate mental health training for students, staff, and faculty. Additionally, I serve as the CUW JED Campus Co-Lead and contribute to the mental health subcommittee, focusing on initiatives to enhance campus mental health resources and support systems.
My career journey includes experience as an intake coordinator at a child advocacy non-profit, various management roles, personal training, and work with international students and in church communities. I am a proud CUW alum, holding a bachelor's degree in psychology and business management, and an associate’s degree in theological studies. During my time as a student, I was the head psychology peer leader and led service projects aimed at reducing mental health stigma and supporting underserved communities.
I am passionate about mental health advocacy and committed to helping college students navigate times of stress, anxiety, and crisis. I hope that students at CUW will feel comfortable reaching out for confidential support and resources.
