Master of Science in Accountancy

Entrance requirements

• An awarded bachelor's degree from an accredited higher-education institution
• Brief video introduction recorded and submitted through your Future Falcon application
• Provide a copy of your government-issued identification
• The accountancy program requires a 2.75 minimum undergraduate GPA in accounting or in another business-related field. 

CPA exam eligibility requirements vary by state. Please visit the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy to determine requirements for your state. In general, we recommend (but do not require) that applicants who wish to sit for the CPA exam have completed undergraduate coursework in the following areas:

• Financial accounting
• Managerial accounting
• Intermediate accounting
• Accounting information systems
• Cost accounting
• Income tax
• Auditing
• Advanced/governmental accounting or equivalent

Students should also have a minimum of 24 additional credits in other business topics.

Admissions process for graduate school

  • Select the Graduate option
• One page essay which should include the following:
  • Reason for obtaining a graduate degree
  • What are your career goals
  • Why are you choosing to pursue your degree at Concordia University
• Current résumé of your education and employment experience
• One letter of recommendation using this Recommendation Form
• Official transcripts from all institutions of higher education
• Brief video introduction recorded and submitted through your Future Falcon application
• Provide a copy of your government-issued identification

Accepted into the program

• An official acceptance letter will be emailed to you that will include your Student ID number
• An email from your Admissions Counselor will be sent to you with Next-Step details
• Password information will be sent separately from the Information Technology office which will provide you access to Canvas, your Concordia email account, and your student portal
• Academic Advising Appointment: Once admitted, you may schedule to meet with your Academic & Career Advisor who will review your degree plan, discuss orientation steps, the CUW student portal, and assist with registering for classes

• Graduate entrance exams such as the GRE, are not required
• If you have completed graduate level classes in the last seven years and wish to have them evaluated for possible transfer, please contact your admissions counselor for more information

Proficiency in Excel, Tableau, and Power BI can significantly enhance your skills and capabilities as an accountant. These skills are highly valued in business where data analysis, visualization, and reporting play a crucial role in decision-making processes. Employers often seek candidates with these technical skills to improve the efficiency and accuracy of financial operations.

Excel 

1. • Data Analysis and Management: Excel is a powerful spreadsheet tool, favored by accountants, that allows you to organize and analyze financial data efficiently. It helps with tasks like budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling.
   • Formulas and Functions: Mastering Excel's formulas and functions is vital for automating calculations, ensuring accuracy, and saving time. Functions like VLOOKUP, IF statements, and PivotTables are commonly used in accounting tasks.
   • Data Validation: Excel provides tools for data validation, ensuring that the entered data meets specific criteria, which is essential for maintaining data integrity and accuracy.

Tableau

1. • Data Visualization: Tableau is a powerful data visualization tool that allows you to create interactive dashboards. For accountants, this means presenting financial data in a visually appealing and understandable format to enable better decision-making.
   • Data Exploration: Tableau helps in exploring and understanding large datasets. It allows you to identify trends, patterns, and outliers in financial data, facilitating better analysis and reporting.
   • Real-time Analytics: Tableau can connect to various data sources, allowing accountants to work with real-time data for timely decision-making.

Power BI

1. • Business Intelligence (BI): Power BI is a business analytics tool that enables users to visualize and share insights from their data. Similar to Tableau, it helps accountants create interactive reports and dashboards, providing a comprehensive view of financial performance.
   • Data Integration: Power BI can connect to various data sources, helping accountants consolidate data from multiple platforms. This integration streamlines the reporting process and ensures data accuracy.
   • Automated Reporting: Power BI allows for the automation of reporting processes, saving time and reducing the risk of errors associated with manual data compilation.
